OUTSTANDING: Republicans Berlin, Burke, Cantore, Connelly, Dillard, Eckhoff, Grant, Ives, Kleeman, McBride, Roskam, Whelan, and Zaruba to walk in Wheaton’s 2013 Independence Day parade. – Dave Diersen
www.gopillinois.com

(THE ARTICLE: Wheaton Independence Day parade registrants so far include Bob Berlin, Mike Burke, Joe Cantore, Mike Connelly, Kirk Dillard, Grant Eckhoff, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Bob Kleeman, J.R. McBride, Peter Roskam, Tim Whelan, and John Zaruba. The Milton Township Republican Central Committee entry will be “Elle,” a 13 1/12 foot high fiberglass elephant. What will you be doing on Independence Day this year? DuPage County Republicans invite you to come to Wheaton and watch its outstanding 2013 Independence Day parade. The parade kicks off at 10:00 AM and will head south on Main Street to downtown Wheaton. Outstandingly, for the eighth consecutive year, DuPage County Republicans will sponsor an entry in the parade. This year, Mike Burke, Joe Cantore, Kirk Dillard, Grant Eckhoff, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeanne Ives, Bob Kleeman, Sandy Pihos, Darlene Ruscitti, and John Zaruba have contributed $1,000 to sponsor the Tunes of Glory (http://www.tunesofglory.org/). I have hand delivered a parade flyer announcing that to homes, apartments, and businesses on the parade route. The parade’s organizer, the Wheaton Park District, has had a glossy color 2-sided flyer in the Daily Herald the promotes the parade and the fireworks the night before. The flyer lists DuPage Republicans as a sponsor.)

It looks like the Democrats are going to boycott Wheaton’s 2013 Independence Day. It looks like Democrat elected officials and candidates, including Bill Daley, Richard Durbin, Lisa Madigan, Barack Obama, Pat Quinn, Sheila Simon, and Jesse White, are going to boycott the parade. Why is that? – Dave Diersen

VILLAGE OF WARRENVILLE

DIERSEN HEADLINE: Republican elected officials and candidates who walked in Warrenville’s outstanding 2013 Independence Day parade Wednesday evening, July 3, included Connelly, Fortner, Hultgren, Ives, and Kleeman. “Elle,” a 13 1/12 foot high fiberglass elephant, was there too.1

  • I Got 30 Million Reasons – Ann Coulter2

(DIERSEN: If you disagree with this article and you say that you are a conservative, if you say that you are Republican, and/or if you say that you are American, I ask you to write a detailed point-by-point rebuttal to this article, post it on your website, and email the hyperlink to me at diersen@aol.com. I will include a link to your rebuttal the next GOPUSA ILLINOIS email.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: We keep hearing insistent claims that if Republicans don’t pass amnesty yesterday it will be the end of the party. Can I see the math on that? I can see why bringing in 30 million new Democratic voters would be good for the Democrats, but how does it help Republicans? Maybe conservatives shouldn’t blindly trust the calculations of the guy who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the U.S. Naval Academy. If I were a Democrat, I would have tried to sneak this bill past Republicans by proposing amnesty only after reaching some easily rigged benchmarks. But, apparently, Chuck Schumer knows elected Republicans better than I do. Step One: Everyone’s amnestied. Step Two: After they’re amnestied, they can bring in all their relatives. If Hispanics voted 50.1 percent for Democrats, amnesty would be a bad deal for Republicans. But, in fact, they vote 70 percent to 80 percent for Democrats. How did it become an urgent priority for Republicans to bring in 30 million new voters, 80 percent of whom will vote Democratic? Democrats want 30 million new voters and they will say anything to get there: — It’s a crisis! Illegal immigrants are “living in the shadows”! That’s not a “crisis.” At most — and this is highly dubious — it’s a crisis for the illegal immigrants. But evidently, “living in the shadows” is at least better than living in Guadalajara. Otherwise, there’s an easy solution. We’re told, “You don’t know what it’s like to live in the shadows!” Yes, you’re right, and that proves it’s not a crisis. Sorry to sound legalistic, illegal aliens, but you broke the law and — look me in the eye — you know you broke the law. You hid in the backs of trucks, traveled across remote desert locations, ran from U.S. agents and stole American IDs. It’s supposed to be uncomfortable to break the law. We aren’t required to grant amnesty to people just because they’ve put themselves in the awkward position of being here illegally. (Or because the Democrats need 30 million new voters.) If illegals were Republicans, Chuck Schumer would be a “Minuteman,” patrolling the Mexican border 24-7. — Oh boy! Are Hispanics ever going to take revenge on Republicans! The obvious retort is: If these people vote 80 percent against Republicans, how does it hurt Republicans if they can’t vote? Is the claim that next time legal Hispanics vote against you, they’ll have an angry glint in their eye? Voting machines don’t register angry glints. — How could any decent person be against granting amnesty to lawbreakers? In common parlance, “the decent thing to do” is usually defined as “following the law.” The fact that Democrats want 30 million new voters is not a good enough reason to ignore the law and screw over the millions of people who have been waiting 20 years to immigrate here legally. — We already have “de facto amnesty.” I gather Marco Rubio considers this his big showstopper, since he says it in every interview as if he’s announcing the Kochen-Specker theorem. But if we already have de facto amnesty, why is this bill even necessary? Oh, that’s right! The Democrats need 30 million new voters. It’s curious that Democrats don’t hysterically demand amnesty for other lawbreakers, such as tax-cheats or polluters. Right now — hold on to your hat, Marco! — we have “de facto amnesty” for tax-cheats and polluters! (Also rapists and murderers and every other crime that doesn’t have 100 percent enforcement.) And if we won’t grant amnesty to tax-cheats and polluters, what about their children? Why punish the children? They did nothing wrong. Their parents told them they had lots of money for houses, clothes and college tuition. How can you put a tax lien on the homes of innocent children? Think of how BP executives’ children have suffered — the divorces, the deferred dreams, the broken families … And by the way, polluters are also hard workers. They love their families and want the best for them, too. I bet illegal aliens who rape women and kill people in drunk-driving accidents love their families. Members of MS-13 work very hard at gang activities, such as, for example, when you cross them, they are very dogged about having you killed in a drive-by shooting. That shows a real stick-to-itiveness. But weirdly, Democrats are obsessed with amnesty only for the lawbreakers that will get them 30 million new voters. (Violent felons come next.) Republicans don’t have to be brave to vote against amnesty. They need to not be idiots. This isn’t a single issue. It’s every issue. Presidential elections are decided by a few million votes. Giving the Democrats 30 million new voters means Republicans lose on everything — Obamacare, public sector unions, big government, abortion, gay marriage, racial preferences, and on and on and on. In another few years, the whole country will be California and no Republican will win another national election. Maybe New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie supports amnesty (as he did, via his appointed senator), hoping to be the last Republican ever elected president. There’s one for the history books! But if Christie says he’s pro-life while giving the Democrats 30 million new voters, he’s a liar. Hispanics favor abortion by 66 percent, compared to 50 percent of other voters. If he says he opposes Obamacare, court-mandated gay marriage, wants small government and loves his country while voting to give the Democrats 30 million new voters, he’s a liar. Hispanics support Obamacare by 62 percent, gay marriage by 59 percent and big government by 75 percent. If he says he opposes bloated, expensive public sector unions, he’s a liar. Look no farther than California for our future. Instead of the elites bringing in another flood of low-wage immigrants to clean their homes and manicure their lawns (and vote Democrat!), how about we start getting some immigrants to compete with Florida senators and New Jersey governors?)

  • Does Kirk Have the Vigor to Win Another Term? – Edward McClelland3

(DIERSEN: What shows the amount of “vigor” that you have? For me, I would cite the fact that since January 1, 2005, I have had enough “vigor” to put together and send out a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email each and every day – that is more than 3,100 days in a row. Those emails have included links to over 138,000 articles and information on many upcoming events. For every hour that I spend putting the emails together, I include links to about six articles; that means that since January 1, 2005, I have spent more than 23,000 hours doing that. I would also cite that before I started spending more and more time on GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails, I rode my bike 1,500 miles (mostly on the Illinois Prairie Path) in 1998, 1,000 miles in 1999, and 500 miles in 2000. I would also cite that when my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to retire in 1997 when I was 49, I had about one year of unused sick days.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sen. Mark Kirk survived his stroke. Now, the National Journal wonders whether he can survive as a politician. Kirk, as we’ve noted before, represents the most Democratic state of any Republican senator. And, he’s one of the few senators who entered office with a plurality of the vote, winning only 48 percent in 2010. That was a Republican year, and Kirk was running against a weak Democrat — Alexi Giannoulias, a 32-year-old, one-term state treasurer whose family bank collapsed after making loans to borrowers with organized crime links. In 2016, Kirk will be running in a presidential year, when more Democratic voters turn out. While praising Kirk for his recovery, the magazine notes that he walks with a four-pronged cane for short trips and a wheelchair for longer trips, and wonders whether he has recovered enough to win a tough election in a big state: Kirk says he’s already planning to run for a second term in 2016, despite the rigor it will take to defend a seat in one of the most Democratic states in the country. Kirk’s recovery has been remarkable by the standards of a stroke patient, even as it’s still left him without his pre-injury vigor or ability to hustle the way politicians must to win reelection in competitive seats. He walks slowly. His voice is weakened. He’s not all he was. But his comeback has been inspiring. On the other hand, the Journal writes, Kirk is as well-suited as a Republican can be to Illinois, and to the 21st Century: He rejects the idea that Republican moderates are an endangered species, but he sounds the refrain that his party has been myopic. “What often happens is that people or politicians get out of date, and that’s my worry about the Republican Party. It apparently doesn’t understand how multicolored and how multicultural our country has become.” Kirk was the second GOP senator, after Rob Portman and before Lisa Murkowski, to support same-sex marriage–putting him ahead of Illinois, which has yet to grant it. Divorced, with a girlfriend and no kids, and having remained unmarried until 41, Kirk gets modern families in a way that many Republicans don’t. Whether that’ll make him an outlier or a lodestar in the GOP remains to be seen. Will Kirk’s health be an issue? Not as much as his politics. The question, the National Journal is asking, is whether he’ll have the energy to defend his record.)

  • George Ryan after release: ‘I feel wonderful’15

(DIERSEN: Do you “feel wonderful?” I do not. Are you “cheerful?” I am not. I need to lose 40+ pounds.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A cheerful, joking George Ryan has spoken outside his home after the former Illinois governor was released from home confinement. Ryan spoke Wednesday afternoon in Kankakee, saying he felt good, physically and mentally. Wednesday ended more than five years in federal custody for corruption. In January, he was released from an Indiana prison and moved to confinement at his home. Ryan says he feels “wonderful” and that “freedom’s a great thing.” Ryan says he’s writing a book but didn’t elaborate. The 79-year-old says he’s still dealing with dental issues that arose in prison. He added, “The dental care there was _ like most everything else _ lousy.” Ryan says he’s lost 40 pounds.)

  • Pence taps state auditor as new Indiana GOP chairman – AP17

(DIERSEN: One could compare and contrast the Indiana Republican Party with the Illinois Republican Party.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has picked state Auditor Tim Berry as the new Indiana Republican Party chairman. Pence announced Wednesday that he was recommending the state GOP executive committee approve Berry as the party chairman and Pence campaign manager Kyle Robertson as the state party’s executive director. Berry is from Fort Wayne and is in his second term as state auditor after serving eight years as state treasurer. He will be replacing Eric Holcomb, who resigned last month to become U.S. Sen. Dan Coats’ state chief of staff. Pence says Berry’s four statewide election victories show that he knows how to run successful campaigns in the state.)

  • Majority of Americans feel blacks are more racist than whites and Hispanics29

(DIERSEN: Democrats have always shouted at minorities, at women, at young people, at etc. that Republicans cause everyone’s problems.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A newly released Rasmussen Report indicates that on average Americans consider black Americans to be more racist than whites and Hispanics. Ideology seemingly plays a large role in public on this issue. Among conservatives, 49 percent consider blacks to be more racist compared to 27 percent of liberals. Twelve percent of conservatives and 27 percent of liberals say whites are more racist. The partisan perspective shows a similar trend with 49 percent of Republicans and only 29 percent of Democrats saying blacks are more racist. Thirty-six percent of unaffiliated adults feel this way as well. Interestingly, the race of the respondent seems to be less important than politics. Among black poll respondents, 31 percent said blacks are more racist, while 24 percent think whites are more racist and 15 percent say Hispanic Americans show greater racist tendencies. Ten percent of white Americans say whites are more racist, 38 say blacks are and 17 percent say Hispanics. Overall, 37 percent of Americans feel that black Americans are the most racist among the three ethnic groups, 15 percent feel that whites are and 18 percent think Hispanics are. These figures are reflective of the current overall attitude of race relations, in which 30 percent of Americans feel that racial rapport is good or excellent rapport, 14 percent think current relations are poor, 29 percent think the current trends indicate improvement and 35 percent see neither progress nor regression. Blacks are more optimistic about the current state of affairs than whites and Hispanics, as are liberals versus conservatives.)

  • U.S. Postal Service Logging All Mail for Law Enforcement – Ron Nixon34

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mr. Pickering was targeted by a longtime surveillance system called mail covers, but that is only a forerunner of a vastly more expansive effort, the Mail Isolation Control and Tracking program, in which Postal Service computers photograph the exterior of every piece of paper mail that is processed in the United States – about 160 billion pieces last year. It is not known how long the government saves the images. Together, the two programs show that snail mail is subject to the same kind of scrutiny that the National Security Agency has given to telephone calls and e-mail. The mail covers program, used to monitor Mr. Pickering, is more than a century old but is still considered a powerful tool. At the request of law enforcement officials, postal workers record information from the outside of letters and parcels before they are delivered. (Actually opening the mail requires a warrant.) The information is sent to whatever law enforcement agency asked for it. Tens of thousands of pieces of mail each year undergo this scrutiny.)
