GOPUSA ILLINOIS

July 1, 2013

Fellow Republicans:

News clips and upcoming event information:

GOPUSA ILLINOIS

The Wheaton Independence Day parade is the most important Independence Day parade in Illinois. One could compare and contrast Chicago Pride parades with Wheaton Independence Day parades. Topinka walked in this year’s Chicago Pride parade. Wheaton has a reputation for being patriotic, Christian, conservative, and Republican. What do you say to anti-patriotic, anti-Christian, anti-conservative, and anti-Republican “Republican” political consultants who advise their Republican clients to NOT walk in the Wheaton parade in order to “reach out” voters who reject the traditional family, immigration, right to life, gambling, Second Amendment, equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving), and other planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform and in the Republican Party platform? – Dave Diersen

Wheaton Independence Day parade registrants so far include Bob Berlin, Mike Burke, Joe Cantore, Mike Connelly, Kirk Dillard, Grant Eckhoff, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Bob Kleeman, J.R. McBride, Peter Roskam, and Tim Whelan. The Milton Township Republican Central Committee entry will be “Elle,” a 13 1/12 foot high fiberglass elephant. What will you be doing on Independence Day this year? DuPage County Republicans invite you to come to Wheaton and watch its outstanding 2013 Independence Day parade. GOPUSA ILLINOIS hopes that all declared and potential Republican federal candidates (including Roskam), state candidates (including Brady, Cross, Dillard, Grogan, Ives, LaHood, Pihos, Proft, Rauner, Rutherford, Schillerstrom, and Topinka), and county candidates (including Cantore, Cronin, Eckhoff, Henry, Hinds, Ruscitti, and Zaruba) who might be on March 18, 2014 Republican primary ballots in Wheaton will walk in Wheaton’s 2013 Independence Day parade. Information on the parade is at: http://www.wheatonparkdistrict.com/pgs/general/specialevents.html#4th. The parade application is at: http://www.wheatonparkdistrict.com/pdfs/July4_ParadeEntry_Contract.pdf. Outstandingly, for the eighth consecutive year, DuPage County Republicans will sponsor an entry in the parade. This year, potential and announced candidates on March 18, 2014 Republican Primary ballots in DuPage County Mike Burke, Joe Cantore, Kirk Dillard, Grant Eckhoff, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeanne Ives, Bob Kleeman, Sandy Pihos, Darlene Ruscitti, and John Zaruba have contributed $1,000 to sponsor the Tunes of Glory (http://www.tunesofglory.org/). I have hand delivered a parade flyer announcing that to homes, apartments, and businesses on the parade route. The parade’s organizer, the Wheaton Park District, has had a glossy color 2-sided flyer in the Daily Herald the promotes the parade and the fireworks the night before. The flyer lists DuPage Republicans as a sponsor. – Dave Diersen

The 200 attendees included Randy Hultgren. – Dave Diersen

WHEATON PATCH

  • Before the Parade – Wheaton Center for History1

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Family Fun before the July 4th Parade In keeping with this year’s parade theme “Salute to Service”, the Center for History will pay tribute to our U.S. military before and during the parade at its museum at 606 N. Main Street, Wheaton on July 4th beginning at 9 a.m. Designed as a family affair, this multi-generational event will capture the curiosity of all ages. Military uniforms dating back to WWI through Dessert Storm will be on display in the gazebo. The medals and ribbons along with the style of each uniform distinguish the era and branch of service of the men and women who proudly served our country. Uniforms have a way of telling stories among family members. Veterans and their families can share their stories with young members about life as a soldier. The Table of Remembrance signifies the ultimate sacrifice made by those in the military who fought for our country but never returned. The table is set with symbols to honor these men and women. Children can experience life as a Civil War soldier as they march and practice drills with “Capt. Bob Brown”. “Capt. Brown” has been instructing students in marching in unison for almost fifteen years during the Center’s Civil War programs. Adults are welcome to see if they can keep their right from their left foot straight.)

  • Court ruling can’t redefine marriage – David E. Smith, Executive Director, Illinois Family Institute, Carol Stream16

(FROM THE LETTER: In spite of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision, marriage remains the union of husband and wife, a timeless and universal institution that connects children to their mother and father. All three branches of government, state and federal, should work to preserve our historic marriage laws – not undermine them. Far too many people fail to understand the unique purpose and nature of marriage. It is the only relationship of interest to the government because it has the potential to produce children and is the best environment in which to raise the next generation of healthy and productive members of society. It is deeply troubling to consider how these two rulings will advance the homosexual political agenda, and how it will lead to more anti-religious bigotry and persecution. While conservative people of faith and moral conscience should be able to freely exercise their religious beliefs, these newly manufactured rights are increasingly being used to quash individual liberties. Regardless of these decisions, the High Court does not have the power to change the reality that children deserve both a mom and a dad. We will continue to do all we can do to educate citizens on the importance of natural marriage for children and society.)

  • Enforce current immigration laws – Donald Froelich, Mt. Prospect17

(FROM THE LETTER: The U.S. doesn’t need new immigration laws. We especially don’t need the Senate’s bloated, pork laden, 1,200 page “immigration bill” which will shovel out our tax dollars to such “noble” causes as Alaska’s fishing industry and Florida’s cruise lines but does nothing to stop the influx of illegal aliens. We first need to secure our borders – there are already enough laws on the books to do that, but the government ignores them. Then we must enforce our current immigration laws, which the Government also ignores.)

Many overtly talked and acted like they had been promised a pay increase, a bonus, and/or a promotion if they succeeded in getting me to leave.)

  • RNC Chair Reince Priebus in Chicago, says GOP has done lousy job reaching out to Hispanics24

(DIERSEN: Those who are anti-White, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, and/or anti-American love it when Republicans say things like that. They love Republicans who self-flagellate (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/self-flagellation). There is a Democrat in my precinct who runs out of his home an shouts at me when I walk by. The next time that I walk by, I will not be surprised at all if he shouts “You Republicans screwed up again, didn’t you! You did a lousy job reaching out to Hispanics, didn’t you!”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Got a high-schooler, college student or new graduate who needs a car? We went shopping for youth-friendly wheels (no Camrys or Malibus) with a value spin. The new and used vehicles we found won’t bust your (or their) budget, and they get high marks for safety and reliability. All these vehicles received a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (its crash tests are more extensive than government tests). And all of our picks have stability control and at least six airbags. We used Consumer Reports’ used-car verdicts to help choose vehicles with above-average reliability. Used-car prices are from Edmunds.com and assume clean condition and 12,000 miles per year. (Certified vehicles cost more because they are inspected and sold with an additional warranty.) New cars are listed with sticker price, invoice price and True Market Value from Edmunds to give you an idea of negotiating room. Five-year service costs (expected outlays for maintenance and repairs) are from Vincentric.)

USA TODAY

  • Despite stormy history, IRS’ Cincinnati roots are firm The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region has had a long relationship with the IRS dating more than 60 years. – James Pilcher42

(DIERSEN: IRS’ Chicago roots are also firm. I worked for IRS in its Chicago-area offices 1971-1980 and I worked for GAO on audits of IRS 1986-1988. According to this article: “Federal jobs bring economic ripple.” During the almost 30 years that I worked for the federal government (Post Office 1966-1969, IRS 1971-1980, and GAO 1980-1997) it paid me about $1 million dollars in salary. I used that salary to pay for living expenses, college expenses, cars, real estate, real estate taxes, save for retirement, etc. During the 15 years and 9 months that I have been a federal retiree, the federal government has paid me about $773,000 in pension checks plus about $173,000 in health care insurance subsidies in today’s dollars. I have used that money pay for living expenses, real estate taxes, newspapers, etc.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “It’s a lot easier to recruit someone into government work because the pay scales are a lot more competitive (in Cincinnati) than in Los Angeles or other big cities,” said Owens, now a tax attorney in Washington. . .Federal jobs bring economic ripple The Covington center was expected to bring in $6 million in payroll when it opened. Now, the IRS presence in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky brings in an estimated $885 million in direct and indirect economic impact, said Janet Harrah, senior director for Northern Kentucky University’s Center for Economic Analysis and Development. And those jobs help create an additional 12,000 jobs throughout the area. “For every federal job outside of Postal Service, you generally see another two jobs created in the area,” Harrah said. “And federal jobs are different, because if they aren’t here, there really isn’t a replacement for them and that money wouldn’t be here either.” The IRS complex in Covington brings in nearly $5 million in payroll taxes for that city alone. City manager Klein said the IRS committed to staying in the city two years ago, and several subsequent meetings have confirmed that. As for Ohio, while calls from some conservatives have increased to scale back or eliminate the IRS entirely, there has been no mention of cutting Cincinnati staff specifically. Officials with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, which helps oversee economic development for the city, declined to comment. But one local economist says that he would be surprised to see the IRS move too much of its operations here. “When they started up here, the center of the country’s population was somewhere around Missouri, and that hasn’t changed much,” said Benjamin Passty, an economics professor at the University of Cincinnati. “This area just has too many advantages for an organization like the IRS.”
